Why I'm building this vessel, The St Romanus was lost with all hands in 1968. six months previous I lost my father in law aboard. I have searched for plans for years to build this model but never found any so building from a photo?. So everything is pretty much guess work.I have bought a HULL and some fittings the rest built by eye. Here fitting the deck frames and cut out freeing ports.
Here glueing v pieces under beams to give exrtra strength, glue type: Araldite 2 pack.
Again using 2 pack glue and clamping down.
Here built forcastle, well deck, Main Deck, Hatch combings and ready for bullwarks supports.
and top rail fitted, ready for prime
I use car gray primer. Aerosol type from motoring shops.
To get the effect of plates I used art paper cut into stripes of 30mm and used PVA glue.
Made from 3mm plywood, Had to guess it but looks fine.
I cut strips of 8mm wide ply by 3mm thick at different lengths to get the effect and glued down with a thick superglue.
Aged and nearly completed the forecastle
Completed deck planks, Gallow, forecastle ready to start main mask.
This again all guess work as I have no plans. But still looking good.
Still more details to finnish, to get the stained effect on wheelhouse I us a Humbrol Yellow mat, 2 coats. Before seconed coat dries use a stiff brush with a dark wood stain from top to bottom strokes until desired effect.
working Bridge lights, Search lights, Deck lights, Nav lights.
